What is ISO Tank Container international Intermodal transportation?

What is ISO Tank Container international Intermodal transportation?
By using a 20F tank container that complies with international standards, it is possible to transport liquid chemicals, etc. in one way all over the world.

What is a 20' ISO Tank Container?

  • This is a container for transporting liquids that can be seamlessly transported by sea, truck, rail, etc. with tanks that comply with ISO standards.

  • We can transport not only Normal goods but also Hazardous material.

  • Since it complies with Hazardous material container standards, the procedures are clear and it can be used safely.

  • It can be used repeatedly and does not require secondary packaging materials.

Why we recommend ISO Tank Container

  • Door to Door

Seamless door-to-door transportation without transshipment is achieved, saving labor time and costs.

  • Containers specialized for transporting liquids

Since it complies with ISO standards, filling/unloading can be done without installing special equipment at the factory.

  • versatility

Road/rail/ Ocean transport is a safe, simple and economical means of transport that can be easily converted into temporary storage facilities.

  • Environmental response

This is an environmentally friendly transportation method that does not generate waste such as packaging materials.

  • Cost reduction

Compared to the drums required when using dry containers, they can transport a larger quantity, and can be expected to significantly reduce costs due to ease of loading and unloading. (20'Dry uses 80 200L drums for 16KL, whereas ISO tank uses up to 26KL)

  • global

It does not require large-scale facilities and is rapidly spreading not only in developed countries but also in emerging countries.

How is it different from a dry container?

External size L 6,058 W 2,438 H 2,591mm L 6,058 W 2,438 H 2,591mm
Container weight Approximately 1,700-2,000 kg Approximately 3,300 to 4,200 kg
inspection Self-inspection (useful life approximately 14 years) 2.5 years (air tightness inspection) 5.0 years (water pressure inspection)
to transport liquids
  • Sub-packaging materials such as IBC (Intermediate Bulk Container), drums, cans, and flexitanks are required.

  • When using drums, a maximum of 80 drums can transport 16KL.

  • Since it is specialized for transporting liquids, it can be filled and transported as is without using secondary packaging materials such as drums.

  • Can transport up to 26KL.

※important point

Regarding the amount of filling in the tank

  • For dangerous goods Ocean transport, there is a regulation (IMDG) that, in principle, the filling rate must be between 80% and 95%.

  • The above regulations do not apply to hazardous materials other than those that are Ocean transport, but if the quantity filled is small, the liquid in the tank will oscillate widely, which can be dangerous, so we recommend the above regulations.

  • Additionally, if the specified filling rate is exceeded, the product will expand due to heat and may cause leakage.

About specific gravity

  • Specific gravity is a unit that compares the mass of a certain substance with the mass of a reference substance (water).

  • For liquids, the amount that can be filled varies depending on the weight ratio of the substance to water.

Filling rate of tank container to be arranged when specific gravity is 0.8 and loading capacity is 18 tons

Loading quantity ÷ Specific gravity = Loading capacity → 18 tons ÷ 0.8 = 22.5KL
For a 25KL tank, 22.5KL ÷ 25KL = 90%, which is no problem.

  • If the filling rate is less than 80%, it can be transported using a tank container with a breakwater plate.

Cargo with high viscosity and melting point is Heating with steam and hot water through the steam vent.

Inside the tank

Inside the tank

It is a stainless steel container.
An optional siphon tube is included for top stacking.
Siphon tubes are used for cargoes that require additional loading, such as poisonous substances.

Tank with baffle

(Tank with baffle)

There is a plate to prevent the liquid from shaking during transportation.
Quantities with a filling rate of less than 80% can be safely transported.
